Manage a safe workplace in the property industry


Application

This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and evaluate a work health and safety (WHS) management system in the property industry.

The unit applies to industry professionals in the property industry.

State or territory licensing requirements may apply to this unit.


Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Maintain WHS system.

1.1 Implement relevant WHS legislation in the workplace.

1.2 Develop and record a WHS management system for the agency.

1.3 Define roles and responsibilities for workplace personnel in WHS policies, procedures and programs.

1.4 Allocate financial and human resources for the operation of the WHS management system.

2. Implement WHS participative arrangements.

2.1 Establish, implement and report on consultative processes according to WHS legislation.

2.2 Resolve issues arising from participation and consultation according to workplace processes.

2.3 Collect and provide workplace safety information to staff according to participative arrangements.

2.4 Explain the WHS management system, its operational procedures and responsibilities to all staff members.

3. Implement risk control processes.

3.1 Implement procedures for the identification and assessment of hazards and risks, and of risk controls.

3.2 Implement procedures for the development and implementation of risk controls.

4. Review WHS management system.

4.1 Implement WHS record keeping system to identify patterns of occupational injury.

4.2 Analyse the WHS management system and implement improvements to achieve agency WHS objectives.

4.3 Assess compliance of the organisational WHS management system with WHS legislative framework and make adjustments as required.
